"Every since I started mentioning that USA Volleyball was bringing a tournament to Aquafest, I have had people telling me they remembered back in the day when there used to be beach volleyball at Aquafest," said Tournament Coordinator Mati Bishop.
"When you combine that kind of history, with the explosion of popularity of youth volleyball in the area led by Lake Volleyball Club and the excitement of Aquafest itself, this promises to be one of the most exciting USA Volleyball events of the summer," he concluded.
The event will be part of the USA Volleyball Puget Sound Region and Volleyball Mecca Junior Points Championship Series that will also include the Kla Ha Ya Days 4v4 tournament, four events at Jetty Island in Everett and a series of events at Bottega Fitness in Clearview. The tournament will also include an adult tournament on Saturday with novice and advanced divisions designed to bring out volleyball players old and new to check out Aquafest.
USA Volleyball Puget Sound Region represents over 5,000 members from Bellingham to Chehalis and starting in 2013 will promote more outdoor volleyball events than any other group in the Puget Sound Region.
"Beach volleyball is exploding in popularity right now," said Bishop. "Having exciting and fun events like our tournament at Aquafest is a way for us to expose as many people as possible to how much fun playing outdoors is."
